Dont you think people under 200 lbs should get a discount on airfare?

i keep hearing about the millions of gallons of extra fuel airlines keep paying for obese people on flights…i have had to sit next to people who should have paid for 2 seats and they were obviously comfortable taking up my arm space while i had to sit all squashed for hours….I am then scrutinized by my size of carry-on when my 40lb bag plus my 135lb body only adds up to 2/3 the weight of some of the fellow passengers!!!!! I PAY EXTRA FOR MY TICKET TO COMPENSATE FOR BUBBA BECAUSE HE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO STOP EATING WHEN HE IS FULL! Just because 65% of Americans are overweight doesnt mean i should in any way have to pay for it because i am small. Us “skinny” (or “normal” as i call it) people already have to look like freaks in this country because we are slim and fit….Dont you think they should give us a discount…or atleast make people weigh in when boarding and have to pay extra over 200 or say 250 lbs? I mean, you have to pay for extra luggage…why not extra FAT!

no cause it’s not true that they are buying millions of extra gallons of fuel for fat people. most of the airlines are broke, they couldnt afford it if that was true.

I am overweight, but not huge. I think anyone who can’t sit comfortably in a plane seat, should have to pay for two seats! Why should they hang over in to my seat and make me uncomfortable?! I will not put up with it! Someone like that sits next to me, I’m having a fit till them move them!

I think the airlines should charge people by the pound, regardless of their weight!
The same should be true at buffets. As a matter of fact, since many health insurance companies charge smokers a surcharge because of the greater likelyhood that they will become ill, shouldn’ the same principle apply to individuals who are overweight.

Thats crazy! Men usually weigh average 185, women 135. The quite larger people have to pay for 2 seats already; I’m 160 but have very broad shoulders not my problem! Tell them to share the arm rest!

wow, you’re really upset about this whole situation. maybe you should just stick to driving if you need to go somewhere. i don’t think anyone (fat or skinny) would like to hear your rambling thoughts anyway, especially if they were trapped on an aircraft with you!!

nope, but overweight people shouldnt be charged 2 seats, some people are just born big, maybe they should make a bigger plane,

I think that if their “measurements” are larger than the seats they should be required to pay for two seats, but as far as a discount for being small I don’t believe it.

speaking as a person who used to weigh more than 200lbs., i have to say that you need to calm down and realize…THEY ARE PEOPLE TOO! you skinny meanie!!
02/06/2009 at 11:08 pm

You have issues. It would be better for the airline companies to make the seats wider and stop trying to cram so many people on one flight.

hey jackass, being over 200 pounds doesn’t make you fat necessarily. I’m 6’8″ and 265 lbs, and could run your ass into the ground. i bench more than 3 times your weight, so try to watch your mouth before i turn you into a human pretzel. just cause your a pencil necked, knock-knee dork, doesn’t mean you get to decide anything. shape up or shut up! when we fly to away games, we are the biggest guys on the plane, and any dick shaped douche like you better get out of the way before drive your head through the food trolley. and yes, i will eat your food, take your pillow and blanket, and read your magazine if you sit next to me. so just deal with it.

lol … great idea … i’m 5’6″ and weigh 103 … they could call them Slim Fares, Average Fares and Fat Fares!

Umm people over a certain weight usually do have to purchase another ticket. Maybe not with all airlines….. but most. So stop your complaining and be happy your not fat too….. and no I’m not fat – so don’t think that’s why I’m saying this. I’m “normal” as you call it.
02/13/2009 at 9:23 pm

Why not charge by the pound like the mail, and be done with it. Everybody steps on a scale when buying their ticket. Charges appropriate for weight,

i’m all for it, but i think it would be better to go with height to weight ratio discount on airfare. if you’re tall, sometimes it’s hard to be under 200lbs.

ADAN
I don’t think so. Some people are over 200 and even 250 lbs and are not obese. There are lots of men (and women if you think about it) that are very big from muscle. And some people, stressing the some, just can’t control their weight, or it is very hard.
02/21/2009 at 4:35 pm
RUSSELL
Well I’m going to ignore the fact that some of your commentary was unnecessary and cruel because I somewhat agree with you. If a person is overweight enough to where they take up more than one airline seat, they should have to pay for two. Simply because it is annoying for the rest of us when like you said we are squeezed tight into our seat the entire flight because the fat person next to us is hogging the armrest. I’ve had it happen to me but you know what? Just let it go, there’s nothing you can do about it. Oh and also I don’t reccomend taking your luggage onto the plane with you, it’s too much of a hassel for yourself and those around you on the plane. They have a luggage check for a reason.
02/23/2009 at 3:47 am
CALEB
no but I think bigger people should pay extra. and it doesn’t necessarily have to go by weight, it should go by body frame. some people are very small framed and some people are very stocky.. a 5’2″ man can be very stocky with broad shoulders and still not way 200 lbs, so his weight would classify him as not big…but his frame size does, he should have to pay extra
02/24/2009 at 4:07 am
RODRICK
Yes, your ticket price shouldbe based on the combined weight of you and your luggage.

They should make obese people pay more and skinny/normal people less. This should encourage overweight people to start doing something about their condition. Maybe it’s discrimination, but one of the biggest problems is motivation, since it is a physical condition brought on by a psychological condition. In the long run, this will only mean that people will be forced to live healthier lives, which is good for everybody. Of course there should be a formula, taking your length in consideration.

MICHAEL
yea and how would that be fair to people like me who are 6’2 and 215(all muscle)…should i not get a discount bc im not a skinny little b*tch like u?!?

AGUSTIN
You should pay extra to compensate for your extremely large mouth. Do you not realize that 200 lbs for some people would be considered underweight. Quit being so shallow and trying to make everyone fit into your mold! Thank God this world is full of different people of all shapes and sizes. You’ve probably got issues about being so small so I will forgive you for being so petty.
03/04/2009 at 11:00 pm
AL
I hear what you are saying. A policy like that would never happen though, because it would be considered discrimination. After all, there are people who have an actual, legitimate condition which precludes them to being overweight.
Your idea has merit, because we have a right to our own seat space, but it is never going to happen. I think the closest thing that could happen would be for people to be charged for total combined weight of their luggage and themselves – just like they do when you ship cargo. But that wouldn’t fix the problem you described above, it would just ensure that bigger people packed less.
One recommendation – if a large person next to you is taking up so much of your personal space, complain. You have as much right to your own private space as anyone else. Just because you are smaller does not mean you deserve less seat space. You paid for that seat like everyone else. If there is a huge problem, they will probably end up moving you, and possibly charging the large person for two seats. You have to ensure you are doing it for the right reason. If you are doing it just to get back at the person because you think they are overweight – than you are a bigot. Everyone has a right to be who they want to be. However, just like smokers, they don’t have a right to impinge on your personal space (i.e. squeezing you out of your seat).

You are a jerk. Its people like you that make not so perfect people feel horrible about themselves. You know nothing about obesity and until you have been a little over weight I don’t think its fair for you to have such a negative opinion on the subject. I would much rather be fat than be like you and judge people based on their looks. Oh, and I bet you are single too, aren’t you?
03/08/2009 at 8:36 pm
WINFRED
The fact is, they DO pay extra if they are fat enough. And where you do get that extra 1000lb of human fat (total) will make much differance in a 10 ton plane? Plus, i’m like 205 and I would like to pay an extra 100 bucks so you can have a 10 dollar discount for my 5 lb.
03/10/2009 at 2:04 pm
GLENN
So what you are saying is that fat people should pay for an extra ticket? Why don’t you make the Blacks sit in the back of the plane too….Or maybe everyone should be forced to take an IQ test before they board, and the smarter ones can sit in first class, and the others should be forced to sit in the back…..Hum…..and who’s to say what is “normal” do you have a magic book that contains criteria on how a person is to look, or act…..GROW UP….I’m sure there are other things in this world to take your anger out on….like thief’s, druggies, murderers, and such……I’m not overweight, but i have a few friends that could stand to loose a few….but i don’t judge them, or other people for that matter…its their life…and they can choose what they want to do with it….You have no right to judge others….only yourself.

Sure. And while we’re at it, let’s charge extra to people who are absolutely gorgeous because airline staff might be too engrossed in looking at them and giving them special attention instead of caring for everyone on the plane, left-handers because they should be seated one side of the plane so they don’t jab fellow passengers while eating, right-handers because at the moment they jab left handers while they eat, anyone who talks too loudly because they are disturbing the peace and quiet of those trying to sleep or get work done on the plane, and oh yeah… anyone who is taking kids on a plane because everyone has to put up with the bawling, screaming and whatnot. Maybe we should also insist on increasing the price of a ticket for all Jews, Muslims, Christians, etc. so everyone can fly in a plane with their own kind. Hey…you start down that road and weird things start happening.

there is a wieght limit for passengers. each airline has different limits per seat. personally 200-250 lbs isn’t that big. i’m a normal sized person but i’m also only 5’5. so my weight is normal for my height. my husband is 6’1 and he is over 200lbs, but thats his weight category. he fits in airplane seat just fine and comfortablly without squishing anyone. the whole 65% of americans that are overweight thing is stupid, if someone is five pounds over what is considered “normal” they are considered overweight and are included in that statistic. good for you that you are of normal weight but maybe you should be a little more sensative to the part of that 65% that are not obese
