Chris Campbell asked:
Everybody wants to get a deal, and pay less money than the next guy. It doesn’t matter if its airline tickets or a great price for lunch. While the advertisers keep tempting us with great prices, quite often you have to pay careful attention to make sure your getting value for your money. What with gas prices being so crazy these days, airlines have resorted to extra hidden charges to stay profitable. While extra charges may be necessary, hiding the from or misinforming the air traveller is not.
The lesson here being, if your looking for cheap plane tickets, make sure your looking at all the costs and fees. It’s almost getting as bad as the cell phone industry, where the initial advertised offer looks like an amazing deal, but the final price is often far more than you expected. The bottom line here, is do your due diligence and make sure you understand all the terms and conditions before breaking out your credit card.
The good news these days, is that you still can get some pretty good deals on tickets. It can take a bit more work then it used to, but the final payoff is in your favor. It used to be, you just called a travel agent, and let them do all the digging for you. If your travel agent was good, you got pretty good value for your money.
Now, with the ability to bypass a travel agent, you can save even more money. There is however, the added expense of your time do the travel agents job. Fortunately, the internet makes this pretty easy. With all the travel aggregators like Expedia, your can quickly compare prices and get some pretty good ticket / hotel / resort / car rental deals.
The other nice thing about arranging your own travel plans, is your more likely to get exactly what you want. Your far more committed to planning the perfect trip for you than any travel agent could be. Even the very good ones. They only have so much time they can spend with each client, to make their business a profitable one. You on the other hand can spend all the time you want.
If you can be a little flexible with your travel plans, your bound to find some cheaper flights. As well, if your not too picky about the in flight extras, you’ll find some of the discount airlines can be very affordable. Keep your eyes open, their are even some auction travel sites that can help in your quest.

Andrew Bicknell asked:
It doesn’t matter if you are a veteran traveler or are planning your first trip on an airplane; there isn’t anyone who doesn’t want to save money on their airline tickets. This is particularly true if you’re planning a vacation to a far off land and the last thing you want to do is eat up your entire vacation budget trying to buy plane tickets.
Finding dirt cheap airline tickets takes some time and patience but it can definitely be worth the effort because we all know that traveling by plane is not that cheap. Whether you are on a budget or not here are some tips and trick you can use to find significant discounts the next time you travel by air.
1. Be flexible with your travel dates and times. Most airlines charge more for peak travel times during the week. By flying at off peak times such as mid-week and/or late evening/early morning you can find significant savings. This is also true of your destination. If you are planning a vacation try to go during the off-season. Not only will you find discounts for your destination but the airlines will also offer savings simply because they need warm bodies in their seats.
2. Book your airfare in advance. This does work to a point because if you book farther then 4 months out your chances of finding good prices are greatly limited. At the same time don’t wait until the last minute because you will be charged full price. Your best window of opportunity is between 4 months and 12 to 20 days before your known travel date.
3. Compare, compare, and compare. Don’t jump at the first deal you think you see. This is where having a little patience can come in handy. Shop around the different airlines websites, travel websites, and even travel agents to get an idea of what the going price for your destination is. This will allow you to pick the fare that best fits your budget and travel plans.
4. Look for package deals. If you are planning a vacation then see if you can find a discount package for both accommodations and airfare. This is something you can usually find through travel agents who know how to find these kinds of dirt cheap travel packages. Cruise vacations are also known to offer discount airplane tickets for their passengers, but you have to ask.
5. Call the airlines. A simple call to the airlines service representatives and asking what kinds of deals and discounts they have going is a great way to save money. In fact most airlines run discounts all the time but they do not actively advertise them.
Scoring dirt cheap airline tickets is not always easy but if you take the time to research your options and have some patience to find the deal that works best for you. Being flexible is your most powerful tool when it comes to finding cheap airfare and when you finally leave for that well deserved vacation just think how good it will feel with that extra cash in your pocket.

Steven Walters asked:
Airfares are rising almost daily and finding a cheap or discounted airline ticket can be next to impossible. While this is true it IS still possible to find cheap airline tickets even for international and overseas travel.
These are five discount travel companies you can check out for some really dirt cheap airline tickets.
Aer Lingus – This airline is Irish and based out of Dublin. If you’re looking for cheap fares to Ireland and even some other major European cities you’ll find them here. They offer flights to San Francisco, Chicago and Washington among others and you can get flights as cheap as $340 one way from New York to Dublin.
Canadian Affair – The airline services primarily Canada and the U.K. and if you’re flying between those two this is the last place you’ll need to look. Flights start as low as 99 Pounds from major Canadian cities and the U.K. which I believe is the cheapest flights to be had. If you’re flying from Canada to the U.K. just go to Canadian Affair.
Zoom Airlines – Zoom airlines is a major discounter flying to London, Paris, New York, Rome and Montreal among others. Booking more than 2 weeks in advance with then can score you some of the best dirt cheap airline tickets available. Currently they are offering round trip tickets from JFK to London for only $277!
Condor – Condor is a German discount airline that flies to the Caribbean, Alaska, Las Vegas and obviously many major European cities. Although the prices are a bit steeper than other discount airlines you can still find some great deals here from time to time. The site is fast and intuitive and definitely worth checking out.
ThompsonFly – Discount airline located in the United Kingdom offering dirt cheap flights from London to Jamaica and Cancun. Go get some sun for just 125 Pounds one way.
This list is not complete as there are literally dozens of discount airlines and travel outlets available. As ticket prices continue to rise I think you’ll start to see more small airlines stepping up with huge discounts on tickets. You’ll still need to research to find the best dirt cheap tickets, but I think it will be easier to find them with little or no work. These are five great places to start your search for discount tickets, now go get yourself a bargain!

Steven Walters asked:
Due to the increasing price of airfare you may not be able to afford that dream vacation you were planning – or can you? Finding some dirt cheap airline tickets could be the difference between staying home or flying off to Europe for your next vacation. Granted it will still be somewhat expensive to fly, but what if you could knock a few hundred dollars off the cost of your airfare. By following these 5 tips you’ll be able to save money and take that vacation you’ve been dreaming of.
Buy your tickets in advance to keep them cheap:
By getting your airline tickets several months in advance you can save substantial moolah. This means at least 3 months in advance for traveling domestically and 6 months in advance for traveling internationally. Avoid peak seasons and holidays and keep in mind that the airlines regularly raise prices for tickets 3 weeks, 2 weeks, 1 week and several days before a planned flight. By getting your tickets early you can avoid these price hikes.
Wait until the last minute to buy your ticket:
You can get some great deals by waiting until the last minute, if you’re willing to be flexible. Not every flight will have vacancies, but when they do a last minute ticket can provide fantastic savings over a full price fare. Contact the airlines directly or check out sites like TravelZoo where they regularly post dirt cheap last minute deals.
Do your homework:
You shop for other major purchases like appliances and autos, you even shop for groceries sales so why not take some time to do some shopping for your airline tickets as well. Don’t take the first fare you find, switch days and times as well as airlines to find the best possible prices for a dirt cheap airline ticket. While you’re researching you can sometimes find the deal of a lifetime!
Know the best times to buy airline tickets:
By tracking the prices of airline tickets you’ll know exactly when they are the cheapest. You can even use sites like Farecast to get predictions of future airline ticket prices to over 75 U.S. cities. Pretty cool huh? This makes it easy to know if you should buy now or wait it out a bit.
Keep in mind too that early morning and late night flights are usually cheaper as are flights in the middle of the week.
Use ticket discounters:
You might have trouble finding tickets for major airlines through discounters, but they can save you a bundle of money at times. The smaller operations usually offer much cheaper flights because they aren’t as popular and don’t have advertising budgets that inflate their ticket prices. With the recent hikes in airline ticket prices these discounters are definitely increasing in popularity.
By following these 5 steps you’ll find it easy to score dirt cheap airline tickets. Everyone should be able to enjoy the feeling you get when you’re able to get a heavily discounted airfare, leaving you more money to enjoy your vacation.
